Appeal for Tablets and Phones

A request has been issued to the community by those working at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital for the provision of mobile phones and tablets in order for families to have contact with loved ones affected by COVID-19.  The narrative to this request is distressing but brings home only too readily, the seriousness of the virus: doctors and nurses lending their personal mobiles to patients to say goodbye to relatives.

The request was brought to our attention by one of our members who nurses at the Hospital.  As a result, the club have donated two new tablets.

In addition, a number of members have already donated second hand tablet devices which have been very gratefully received.  However, more are needed.  If any other players, friends, supporters or members have old tablets or phones with video calling capabilities which they would be willing to donate at this very difficult time, please email Martin Hughes on hghmar007@gmail.com

Lucy Hart – a reminder

Just a reminder to all that Lucy Hart’s funeral takes place today at 1:30pm, and we are asking all players, members, supporters and friends, to observe a minutes silence at 1:30pm (or at some other point) today in memory of, and celebration of Lucy’s life, and in support of David and the boys.  Many thanks.

Lucy Hart – RIP – a minutes silence

Many of you will already be aware but it is with considerable regret and sadness that Lucy Hart passed away on Sunday 8 March.  Lucy’s oldest son, Thomas, was a junior cricketer at Miskin, and her youngest son Will, is a current junior member and has recently been accepted into the Wales U13 squad.  Husband Dave is a member of the committee as well as a vital member of our junior section team.  It is with Dave’s very kind permission that we post his tribute to Lucy below.

The whole family have been great supporters of the club over the years, and Lucy will be greatly missed.

Lucy’s funeral will take place on Friday 3 April at 1:30pm.  In light of the current Co-Vid19 crisis, the funeral will be family only.  The players and supporters of the club send their collective best wishes to Dave and the whole family at this time, and wish that we could be there with you to show our love and support.

In lieu of attendance, we are calling on all players, members and supporters, to observe a minutes silence on Friday at 1:30pm, in memory of Lucy, and in support of Dave and the boys.

Dave’s message is below:

Membership and Subs

May I start by wishing all our members, players, sponsors and supporters, and your loved ones, all the best during this difficult time.  Stay safe, the cricketing family is a strong, loving, and overall resilient one.

In light of the current uncertainties about the season in general, we have taken the decision to suspend membership and subs payments for the foreseeable future.  We are a community volunteer, not for profit club, and exist for the benefit of our members and the community.   We recognise in these difficult times that our players and supporters may well be facing financial pressures and it would be wrong of us to add to that burden.

The club is in a stable position financially and will be able to ride out the next few months without income, but still be able to maintain essential work to the ground and clubhouse (subject to any further restrictions).  Rest assured we will come through this and we will be playing cricket again shortly.

Best wishes to all

Glenn

Coronoavirus Outbreak

In light of the ongoing problems with the Coronavirus, and in light of current government guidlines, the club has taken the difficult decision to suspend all cricketing activity until further notice.  This includes all nets, practice and maintenance.

We will continue to monitor the situation and heed ECB and Cricket Wales advice.  In the meantime, we wish all our members, players, supporters and friends, our support and best wishes in these difficult times.
